Abstract: Students, this post contains a brief excerpt of the once-dictator of Germany, Adolf Hitler, and 3 video links which conceptualize Hitler and his actions in popular culture. Please view at least 2 of the 3 videos (viewing the entire video is not necessary), and answer the two questions which follow.
Videos:
1. “Der Furher’s Face,” A Walt Disney cartoon which depicts Donald Duck as a Nazi soldier in Germany during World War II
2. “Lil’ Hitler” A Robot Chicken clip which depicts Hitler’s military aggression through the analogy of a Middle School classroom
3. “The Great Dictator” A Charlie Chaplin parody of Adolf Hitler giving on of his infamously enthusiastic speeches.
Questions:
1. Which of the two videos did you enjoy the most?
2. List one historically accurate aspect from both of the videos you watched.
I enjoyed the Robot Chicken video most. It showed how the US refused to get involved until someone "pushed" them just like in the history books. Donald was not as entertaining and kind of long but it did have a lot of real campaign slogans and mottoes from the third-reich.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Donald Duck even though it was long mostly becasue I had no idea it existed! All three had aspects that were historically accurate- Donald in the beginning was being watched closely by the Nazis, The United States didn't get involved until they were attacked and Hitlers speeches were very animated and passionate.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Robot Chicken video the most. It was a great representation of Hitler's actions in the war and also the attitude of the US. A great way to tie history into pop culture to engage the students. The Donald video was a little more subltle, but had great information about the Nazis.
ReplyDeleteI thought the Robot Chicken clip was great. I didn't find the Donald duck clip as funny, but I did notice Don reading Mein Kampf. The Robot Chicken clip was loaded with historical accuracies: Germany invaded Poland, then Czechoslovakia and the US didn't decide to get involved until being attacked. Great stuff.
